In the News: U.S. and Russia Sign Nuclear Arms Control Treaty

On April 8, 2010, U.S. President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a historic agreement that promised to reduce the two nations’ nuclear arsenals by 30 percent—to their lowest levels since the early 1960s. In their remarks at the signing ceremony, both leaders expressed confidence that the New START Treaty will make the world safer and more secure. “No one stands to lose from this agreement,” Medvedev stated. “The entire world community has won.”
